"The Predaplants are carnivorous flora that place Predator Counters on opponent's monsters, reducing them to Level 1 and making them Fusion Material. Chimerafflesia searches any Fusion or Polymerization card, while Verte Anaconda—now banned—could copy any Fusion Spell. With the advent of the Four Heavenly Dragons, they digest their prey and bloom with stolen Synchro and Pendulum power."

Yuri's Predaplants from Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V each join a real carnivorous plant to an animal. Follow a marked name to walk the trail.

Predaplant Flytrap
I · Flytrap

  1. The Venus flytrap, the plain one. It shares Predaprime Fusion's art with Moray Nepenthes.

  2. The cobra lily, Darlingtonia californica, drawn as an actual cobra.

  4. A sundew and a squid; it shares Predaplast's art with Sarraceniant.

  5. A Sarracenia pitcher and an ant; it helped Yuri make Greedy Venom Fusion Dragon.

  6. The bee orchid and a scorpion.

  7. Dionaea, the flytrap, and Spinosaurus.

  8. Nepenthes hamata, a pitcher plant like Moray Nepenthes's, and a pterosaur.

  9. The Dracula orchid and a spider, very like the Facehugger of Alien.

  10. The one fungus: cordyceps, which kills insects and sprouts from them.

  11. Banksia and an ogre, and the last monster Tribute Summoned in ARC-V.

  12. Rafflesia, the parasite plant, as a chimera, from ARC-V manga chapter 9. It drains ATK, as Rafflesia draws on its host.

  13. Stapelia and a dragon, shaped like Greedy Venom Fusion Dragon. Its upgrade is Triphyoverutum.

  14. Triphyophyllum and Vertumnus, Roman god of growth: Dragostapelia and Drosophyllum Hydra fused.

  15. The morelle verte and the green anaconda, one more snake after Darlingtonia Cobra: the only Predaplant Link, and now Forbidden.

The Predatory Philosophy

The Predaplant archetype thrives on a dual strategy of board control and explosive Fusion Summoning. Thematically designed around carnivorous plants, the deck weakens and marks opposing monsters with its signature Predator Counters before "consuming" them as materials for powerful DARK Fusion Monsters. This interplay of control and aggression defines the archetype's core gameplay loop and strategic identity. You can almost feel the vines coiling around your opponent's monsters.

Core Mechanics

Predator Counters

Placing a Predator Counter on a monster reduces its Level to 1, disrupting Synchro and Xyz plays. More importantly, it marks them as targets to be tributed or used as Fusion Material by your Predaplant effects.

Fusion Summoning Engine

The ultimate goal is to summon powerful DARK Fusion monsters. Cards like Predaplant Chlamydosundew can even use your opponent's monsters with Predator Counters as material, turning their board into your advantage.

The Greenhouse: Core Cards

Starters

Ophrys Scorpio

The deck's most crucial one-card starter. Discarding a monster lets it Special Summon any "Predaplant" from the deck.

Searchers & Extenders

Darlingtonia Cobra

Searches any "Fusion" or "Polymerization" spell when summoned by a Predaplant effect (once per duel).

Byblisp

The core advantage engine. When sent to the GY, it searches any "Predaplant" monster.

Boss Monsters

Dragostapelia

The premier control monster, placing Predator Counters and negating the effects of monsters that have them.

Triphyoverutum

A powerful boss that negates Special Summons and can revive itself from the Graveyard.

Competitive Analysis

Strengths

  • Strong Grind Game: Excellent resource recursion from the GY.
  • Board-Breaking: Superb at dismantling established boards.
  • Synergy: Seamlessly integrates with engines like Branded.

Weaknesses

  • No S/T Negation: Vulnerable to floodgates and powerful backrow.
  • Nibiru Vulnerability: High number of summons.
  • Choke Points: Relies heavily on resolving key starters.

Key Synergies

  • Branded Engine: Branded Fusion is a one-card starter.
  • Super Polymerization: Easy board breaks with DARK attributes.

The Blazing Dominion Paradigm Shift

Historically, the "Predaplant" archetype operated as a fragile, strictly linear combo deck notoriously reliant on the Normal Summon of Ophrys Scorpio. Following the widespread prohibition of Verte Anaconda, the strategy struggled to maintain a cohesive identity.

The release of the Blazing Dominion (BLZD) core set in early 2026 fundamentally re-engineered the archetype. By introducing new Tuners, Extenders, and Pendulum-Fusion hybrids, the strategy transitioned from a brittle Fusion-centric build into a highly resilient, mid-range Synchro-Fusion hybrid.

The Premier Extender: Free Special Summon from hand if you control a Predaplant/Starving Venom. On SS, optionally adds "Polymerization" from Deck.

Super Poly Enabler: Targets a face-up monster to convert its Attribute to DARK. If SS from the GY, you draw 1 card—repairing Fusion card disadvantage.

Predaplant Bal Teah

Level 4 | DARK | Plant | Synchro Tuner

The Synchro Convergence: On Synchro Summon, Special Summons a Predaplant/Starving Venom from Extra Deck or GY (creating instant access to Level 7 Synchros).

Asymmetric Disruption: If opponent Special Summons: Banish this card & a Poly from GY to Fusion Summon immediately during their turn.

Predaprimitive

Normal Spell. Send 1 "Predap" card from Deck to GY to add "Polymerization" or "Fusion" Spell. (Locks SS to Plant/Dragon). Banish from GY to destroy your own Fusion when opp SS, triggering localized board wipes.

Battles of Legend: Thorns of Violet Poison

The Pure OTK & Burn Paradigm Shift

The release of the continuous-impact Normal Spell "Thorns of Violet Poison" (initially translated as "Thorn Fangs of Violet Poison") in Battles of Legend: Glorious Gallery completely redefines the Predaplant strategy!

Instead of playing a slow game of resource attrition and wearing your opponent down over time, this card transforms Predaplant into a lightning-fast One-Turn Kill (OTK) powerhouse. By summoning Starving Venom Fusion Dragon and letting it grow past one of their Special Summoned monsters, you can wipe every weaker monster from their board and deal burn damage based on their original Attack values—often winning the duel in a single move!

Card Breakdown & Simple Rules

Understanding "Thorns of Violet Poison" in Simple Terms

Thorn Fangs of Violet Poison
Missing: 72374522
Normal Spell Card
TCG Set: Battles of Legend: Glorious Gallery
(OCG: Premium Pack 2026)

Official Rules Text (Simplified):

"Target 1 'Starving Venom Fusion Dragon' you control; destroy as many monsters your opponent controls with lower ATK as possible, then you can discard your entire hand, and if you do, inflict damage to your opponent equal to the destroyed monsters' total original ATK, also the targeted monster cannot attack this turn."

Three Key Rules Explained for Beginners:

1

Super Easy to Search (Rule Clause): The card has a rule stating: "(This card is always treated as a 'Predap' card.)" This means it behaves exactly like a Predaplant card. You can search for it directly from your deck using monsters like Ambulomelides or Longinephila, so you always have it ready!

2

The "Then" Board Wipe (Resolution): The spell destroys all weaker enemy monsters first. If (and only if) at least one opposing monster is successfully destroyed, you can then discard your hand to deal damage. If your opponent protects their monsters so they aren't destroyed, you don't discard any cards!

3

Full Damage Payoffs (Original ATK): The burn damage deals points equal to the destroyed monsters' original Attack printed on their cards. So even if their current Attack was reduced to 0 by your card effects, you still inflict their full, maximum original damage directly to your opponent's Life Points!

The "Starving Venom" Target Ecosystem

Thorns of Violet Poison targets a monster named exactly "Starving Venom Fusion Dragon" in your Monster Zone. The newer Starving Venom dragons have names of their own, so in the TCG only one card is a legal target. Here's where each dragon fits:

👑

The Only Legal Target

Starving Venom Fusion Dragon

Starving Venom Fusion Dragon

Level 8 DARK Dragon Fusion · 2800 ATK

Why it's the one: It's the only TCG-legal card with the exact name Thorns asks for. It needs 2 DARK monsters on the field, which Predaplants make easily with Bufolicula, Predaprime Fusion or Chlamydosundew. When it's Fusion Summoned, it gains ATK equal to one of your opponent's Special Summoned monsters until the end of the turn, so that monster is always below it when Thorns resolves, and it still burns for its full original ATK.

🌀

The Copycat Play

Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom
FORBIDDEN

Supreme King Dragon

Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom

Why it is useful: If your main Starving Venom Fusion Dragon is in the Graveyard, you can summon this Level 8 dragon and copy its name and effects from the Graveyard. This turns it into a valid target for the Spell, ensuring you can still pull off your OTK even when resources are low!

Forbidden in the TCG. Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom can't be played at TCG events, so this copy play only works in the OCG or in casual games.

🦋

Support, Not a Target

Starving Venom Wing Dragon

Starving Venom Wing Dragon

Level 10 Fusion & Pendulum Dragon

Why it's still useful: Its name isn't "Starving Venom Fusion Dragon", so Thorns can't target it. It earns its slot elsewhere: it negates monster effects, absorbs ATK and destroys cards, and in the Pendulum Zone it puts a Predator Counter on every monster your opponent Special Summons, which Dragostapelia turns into a negation lock.

Same for Four Heavenly Dragons: Starving Venom Fusion Dragon, Four Heavenly Dragons (TCG release 12 Nov 2026) has its own name too, so it can't be the target either. Its Quick Effect can Fusion Summon the original Starving Venom Fusion Dragon on your opponent's turn from DARK monsters on either field, including itself, ready for Thorns on your turn.

Deckbuilding Consistency

Why We Only Run Exactly One Copy

In Yu-Gi-Oh!, an OTK strategy is only good if you can consistently get your key cards into your hand. Because "Thorns of Violet Poison" counts as a "Predap" card, you can easily pull it out of your Deck using a wide variety of search cards:

Card Image Searching Card Card Type How It Searches "Thorns of Violet Poison"
Predaplant Ambulomelides
Predaplant Ambulomelides Level 5 Fusion Monster When Fusion Summoned, it lets you add any "Predap" Spell/Trap card directly from your deck to your hand. This is your primary searcher mid-combo!
Predaplant Longinephila
Predaplant Longinephila Level 1 Tuner Monster When Normal or Special Summoned, it automatically searches your deck for any "Predap" card. Extremely easy to summon and trigger!
Predaplant Sarraceniant
Predaplant Sarraceniant Level 1 Effect Monster When sent from the field to the Graveyard by a card effect (usually as Fusion Material), it searches your deck for any "Predap" card.
Predapractice
Predapractice Normal Spell Card Special Summons a Predaplant from your hand, then searches your deck for any "Predap" card to extend your board.
Sub-Optimal Deck Ratio Warning: Because the Spell is extremely easy to search at any stage of your combo, competitive players universally run exactly one copy in their deck. Drawing this card in your opening hand before you have a dragon on the field is a "brick" (a useless card in hand). Keeping it as a 1-copy inclusion guarantees you will search and play it only when you are 100% ready to win the game!

Step-by-Step OTK Combo Guide

Two Cards, One Normal Summon, One Turn

This line goes second into monsters your opponent Special Summoned. It starts from Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio and any other monster, uses a single Normal Summon, finds "Thorns of Violet Poison" on the way, and ends on the original Starving Venom Fusion Dragon, the one monster Thorns can target. Ultra Polymerization costs 2000 Life Points. Watch for Nibiru once Scorpio and Cobra come back, which is your fifth summon.

Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio
1

Summon Scorpio & Cobra

Normal Summon Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio. Send 1 monster from your hand to the GY (Predaplant Byblisp is ideal) to Special Summon Predaplant Darlingtonia Cobra from your Deck.

Predaplant Darlingtonia Cobra
2

Add Ultra Polymerization

Cobra was Special Summoned by a "Predaplant" effect, so it adds Ultra Polymerization to your hand (once per Duel). Byblisp, now in the GY, adds a Predaplant monster too; this guide takes Drosophyllum Hydra.

Predaplant Ambulomelides
3

Fusion Summon Ambulomelides

Pay 2000 Life Points for Ultra Polymerization and fuse Scorpio and Cobra into Predaplant Ambulomelides. Nobody can respond to Ultra Polymerization.

4

Add Thorns & Bring Back the Materials

Ambulomelides adds Thorns of Violet Poison from your Deck; it is always treated as a "Predap" card. Then banish Ultra Polymerization from your GY to Special Summon Scorpio and Cobra back, with 0 ATK and their effects negated.

Starving Venom Fusion Dragon
7

Grow Past Their Biggest Monster

It was Fusion Summoned, so it gains ATK equal to one of your opponent's Special Summoned monsters until the end of the turn. Pick their strongest: your dragon now has 2800 plus that monster's ATK.

8

Activate Thorns of Violet Poison

Target Starving Venom Fusion Dragon in your Monster Zone. It can't attack this turn, and every monster your opponent controls with less ATK than it is destroyed.

Thorn Fangs of Violet Poison
Missing: 72374522
9

Discard Your Hand for the Burn

Discard your whole hand (here, Drosophyllum Hydra) to deal damage equal to the destroyed monsters' combined original ATK. If that reaches their Life Points (three 2700 ATK monsters already make 8100), the duel ends here. Otherwise Longinephila can still attack for 600.

Resource Management & Safety Shields

Graveyard Synergy & Going-First Tactics

Turning the Hand Discard into an Advantage:

Discarding your entire hand sounds risky, but the Predaplant deck turns this into a massive advantage! You want to discard cards that have effects in the Graveyard. For example, discarding Predaplant Byblisp instantly triggers it in the Graveyard to search for another monster, immediately replenishing your hand! Other discarded cards like Longinephila or Predaplanning can be banished from the GY to place counters or disrupt your opponent on their turn.

Board Insulation (Protecting Your Plays):

Predaplant Daredevil
Missing: 82370493

Predaplant Daredevil (Level 6): Summoned easily using Longinephila. In a Main Phase of the turn it's Special Summoned, it destroys Spells and Traps, up to the number of monsters with a Predator Counter. Use Daredevil to sweep backrow clean before activating your win condition! Full breakdown in the Daredevil tab

Predaplant Bal Teah

Predaplant Bal Teah (Level 4 Synchro): Actively protects your plays by Special Summoning your dragons back from the Graveyard if they are negated or destroyed. It also lets you Fusion Summon instantly on your opponent's turn to dodge target removals!

Going-First Side Deck Tactics:

In competitive tournament play, if you win Game 1, your opponent will typically force you to go first in Game 2. Going first renders your OTK Spell card useless since the opponent will not control any monsters to destroy.

In this scenario, pivot your deck into a defensive, oppressive control board! Side out a few OTK combo extenders and focus on establishing a defensive wall centered around Predaplant Dragostapelia and Starving Venom Wing Dragon to distribute counters, negate opposing monster effects, and seal the game!

New card Beyond the Brave

Predaplant Daredevil: The Plant That Eats Protected Bosses

Predaplants have always turned opposing monsters into Level 1 targets. Daredevil is the first Predaplant that cashes those counters in for Spell and Trap removal. You can Fusion Summon it like any Fusion Monster, or summon it straight from the Extra Deck by Tributing a monster with a Predator Counter, yours or your opponent's, together with a "Predaplant" you control. It's a going-second and opponent's-turn card. Going first, with no counters and no enemy backrow, it's a 2200 ATK body and Fusion material.

"Predaplants just got a third Kaiju that you don't need to draw or foolish to play." r/yugioh, on the card's reveal. Banksiogre and Drosophyllum Hydra are the other two Predaplants that summon themselves by Tributing a monster with a Predator Counter.

The Card

Predaplant Daredevil

Predaplant Daredevil

Level 6 · DARK · Plant / Fusion / Effect · ATK 2200 / DEF 1500

1 "Predaplant" monster + 1 Level 1 monster

Must first be either Fusion Summoned, or Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by Tributing 1 monster on either field with a Predator Counter and 1 "Predaplant" monster you control. During the Main Phase, if this card was Special Summoned this turn (Quick Effect): You can target Spells/Traps on the field, up to the number of monsters with a Predator Counter; destroy them. You can only use this effect of "Predaplant Daredevil" once per turn.

In plain words

  • Two ways in. Fuse a "Predaplant" with any Level 1 monster, or skip the Spell and Tribute a monster with a Predator Counter (either field) together with a "Predaplant" you control.
  • The Tribute isn't an effect. It doesn't target and can't be chained to, so "cannot be targeted" and effect negation don't stop it. Cards that negate a Summon still do.
  • One Spell/Trap per counter. In a Main Phase of the turn it was Special Summoned, yours or your opponent's, it destroys up to one Spell/Trap for each monster with a Predator Counter, yours included.

Two Ways to Summon It

Both routes end with the same Daredevil, and both count as Special Summoned for its effect. They differ in when you can use them and whose monster you spend.

Fusion Summon

1 "Predaplant" monster + 1 Level 1 monster, through any card that can Fusion Summon a Level 6 DARK monster.

When
Whenever the Fusion card allows. Super Polymerization and Bal Teah work on your opponent's turn.
Their monster
Only through Super Polymerization or Chlamydosundew, and it has to be Level 1. A Predator Counter makes any monster with a Level into one.
Chain
The Fusion card is activated, so it can be answered. Super Polymerization can't.
Counts as
A Fusion Summon: Predaplanning's GY effect and Branded Lost trigger.

Tribute From the Extra Deck

Tribute 1 monster with a Predator Counter on either field and 1 "Predaplant" monster you control.

When
Your own Main Phase only, like every summon by a card's own procedure.
Their monster
Any monster with a counter, even an Xyz or Link Monster, which has no Level.
Chain
None. It doesn't target and isn't an effect.
Counts as
A Special Summon, not a Fusion Summon. Daredevil's effect still works.

Counters that don't target: Triantis (sent as material), Longinephila's GY effect, Predaplanning, Banksiogre, Squid Drosera and Starving Venom Wing Dragon's Pendulum Effect. Counters that target: Spinodionaea, Flytrap, Predaplast and Dragostapelia. Longinephila, Byblisp and Bufolicula are Level 1 "Predaplant" monsters, so any two of them cover both Fusion materials.

Super Polymerization Synergy

Super Polymerization uses monsters from both fields, and nobody can respond to it. Daredevil's second material only has to be a Level 1 monster, so once a Predator Counter is on it, almost any opposing monster qualifies. It's a Quick-Play Spell, which also makes it the easiest way to get Daredevil out on your opponent's turn, when its effect hits their backrow.

  1. Make it Level 1A Predator Counter turns a Level 2 or higher monster into Level 1 for as long as the counter stays. Monsters that are Level 1 already need nothing.
  2. Fuse itDiscard 1 and fuse it with your "Predaplant". Super Polymerization doesn't target, and no one can chain to it.
  3. Count the restDaredevil was Special Summoned this turn, so in that Main Phase it destroys a Spell/Trap for every other monster with a counter.

Which Cards Can Summon Daredevil?

Card Daredevil? Materials from When Why
Can use your opponent's monster
Super Polymerization Yes Both fields Either turn (Quick-Play) Discard 1. Your "Predaplant" plus their Level 1, or their monster with a Predator Counter.
Predaplant Chlamydosundew Yes Itself, your hand and field, and their monsters with a Predator Counter Your Main Phase Chlamydosundew is the "Predaplant"; their monster with a counter is the Level 1.
Starving Venom Fusion Dragon, Four Heavenly Dragons Yes DARK monsters on either field, including itself When your opponent activates a card or effect It's always treated as a "Predaplant" card, so it's the "Predaplant". The Level 1 has to be DARK; its summon effect can make one DARK. TCG release 12 Nov 2026.
Your own monsters
Predaplant Bal Teah (GY effect) Yes Your hand or field When a monster is Special Summoned to your opponent's field Banish "Polymerization" and Bal Teah from your GY. Works on your opponent's turn.
Predaplant Bufolicula (Pendulum Effect) Yes Your hand or field Your Main Phase DARK Fusion Monsters only, and Daredevil is DARK.
Polymerization, Fusion Substitute, Ultra Polymerization Yes Polymerization: hand or field. The other two: your field only Your Main Phase Two Level 1 "Predaplant" monsters, such as Byblisp and Longinephila, cover both materials.
Predaprime Fusion Yes Either field, but it needs 2 or more DARK monsters you control Your Main Phase Daredevil has only 2 materials, so both come from your side.
Instant Fusion No — — Level 5 or lower only, and Daredevil is Level 6.
Branded engine
Lubellion the Searing Dragon Yes Your field, GY and face-up banished cards, shuffled into the Deck When Lubellion is Fusion Summoned Discard 1. It summons Level 8 or lower, and Daredevil is Level 6.
Albion the Branded Dragon Yes Your hand, field and GY, banished When Albion is Fusion Summoned Level 8 or lower, like Lubellion.
Branded Banishment No — — It only summons Level 8 or higher Fusion Monsters. It's a common misread for an opponent's-turn Daredevil.
Branded in Red No — — Level 8 or higher only.
Branded Fusion No — — Only Fusion Monsters that mention "Fallen of Albaz".
Fallen of Albaz No — — Albaz has to be one of the materials, and it's neither a "Predaplant" nor Level 1.

Where Daredevil goes next, as material

  • Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon: the "1 Fusion Monster" next to Fallen of Albaz
  • Predaplant Dragostapelia: it's both the Fusion Monster and a DARK monster
  • Starving Venom Predapower Fusion Dragon: the DARK Fusion Monster
  • Starving Venom Fusion Dragon: one of the 2 DARK monsters on the field

Three New Lines

Each line runs step by step in the combo simulator below the tabs, next to the other Predaplant lines. The opponent's cards stay off the simulator board; the steps say what happens to them.

Predaplant Triantis

Line 3 · Going second · 2 cards

Two-Card Triantis Backrow Break

Hand
Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio + Predaplant Byblisp.
Against
A boss that can't be targeted, a second monster and two Set cards.
How
Bufolicula fuses Triantis and Longinephila into Ambulomelides. Triantis counters both of their monsters without targeting, and Longinephila's GY effect counters your Scorpio. Daredevil Tributes the boss, destroys both Set cards, and Drosophyllum Hydra Tributes the other monster.
Ends on
An empty opposing field; four attackers for 5200 damage.
Watch for
Ash Blossom on Scorpio and the three adds, and Nibiru once Daredevil, your fifth summon, lands.
Super Polymerization

Line 4 · Opponent's turn

Predaplanning Ambush With Super Polymerization

Your board
Dragostapelia and Longinephila, with Predaplanning and Super Polymerization Set, and 1 card in hand.
Against
A boss, a second monster and two Set cards, summoned and Set this turn.
How
Predaplanning counters every face-up monster, so Dragostapelia negates theirs. Super Polymerization fuses their boss with Longinephila. Predaplanning's GY effect and Daredevil's Quick Effect clear the rest in one chain.
Ends on
Their field empty during their own Main Phase.
Watch for
Activate Super Polymerization in a Main Phase, not the Battle Phase, so Daredevil's effect is live straight away.
Lubellion the Searing Dragon

Line 5 · Going second · Branded

Branded Lubellion Break

Hand
Predaplant Longinephila + Branded Fusion (Limited).
Against
A boss that can't be targeted and a second monster.
How
Longinephila is the DARK material for Lubellion, which becomes Mirrorjade. Its GY effect counters the boss, Daredevil Tributes it, and Mirrorjade banishes the other monster.
Ends on
Mirrorjade, Daredevil and Heliamphorhynchus attack for 6400; Albion Sets Branded Banishment in the End Phase.
Watch for
Their Set cards stay: no counters are left for Daredevil's effect. Nibiru is live after your fifth summon.

Daredevil in Branded Predaplant

Branded Predaplant keeps its Branded Fusion, Mirrorjade and Branded Banishment package. Daredevil fits around it, not inside Branded Banishment.

Works

  • Lubellion and Albion can summon it when they're Fusion Summoned, since both reach Level 8 or lower.
  • It's the Fusion Monster that Mirrorjade needs next to Fallen of Albaz, and both halves of Dragostapelia's "1 Fusion + 1 DARK".
  • Branded Fusion's turn only allows Fusion Monsters from the Extra Deck, and Daredevil is one.
  • Longinephila can be Branded Fusion's DARK material, then place the counter from the GY (line 5).

Doesn't

  • Branded Banishment and Branded in Red only summon Level 8 or higher, so neither can make Daredevil.
  • Fallen of Albaz's own effect has to use Albaz, which is neither a "Predaplant" nor Level 1.
  • Branded Lost only protects and adds on a Fusion Summon, not on the Tribute summon.

Rulings to Know

Card text

The Tribute summon starts no chain

It's the card's own summoning procedure, not an effect. It can't be chained to, doesn't target, and gets around "cannot be targeted" and effect negation. Cards that negate a Summon still work.

Game rule

Tribute summon: your Main Phase only

Summons by a card's own procedure need your Main Phase. On your opponent's turn, use a Fusion route: Super Polymerization, Bal Teah or Four Heavenly Dragons.

Game rule

Unaffected monsters stay out of reach

A Predator Counter is placed by an effect, so a monster unaffected by your card effects can't get one, and Daredevil can't Tribute it. A monster that only can't be targeted can still get a counter from Triantis, Longinephila's GY effect or Predaplanning.

Card text

Xyz and Link Monsters

They can get a Predator Counter but have no Level, so they can't be the Level 1 material. They can still be Tributed for the summon.

Card text

What the effect counts

Every monster with a Predator Counter on either field when you activate it, yours included; Daredevil itself has none. "Up to" lets you target fewer. It targets, so your opponent can chain the Set cards it targets, and Spells/Traps that can't be targeted are safe.

Card text

When the effect works

In any Main Phase of the turn it was Special Summoned, yours or your opponent's. If it was summoned in the Battle Phase, it can still use the effect in Main Phase 2. It's once per turn by name, so a second Daredevil can't use it that turn.

Card text

The Tribute summon isn't a Fusion Summon

Predaplanning's GY effect and Branded Lost only trigger on a Fusion Summon. A Byblisp Tributed this way is banished, and Sarraceniant doesn't add a card: a Tribute for a summon isn't a card effect.

Are the Tributed monsters Fusion Material?

A Reddit rulings thread says yes, as with other Fusion Monsters that have a Tribute procedure. That would trigger Triantis and Bufolicula. There's no official TCG ruling yet, so none of the lines here rely on it.

When to Play It

Shines

  • Going second into a boss that can't be targeted: the Tribute ignores that protection.
  • Against decks that Set several Spells and Traps or rely on Continuous and Field Spells.
  • On your opponent's turn after Predaplanning, or with Starving Venom Wing Dragon in the Pendulum Zone, which puts a counter on everything they Special Summon.
  • Against Level 1 monsters: Super Polymerization takes them without any setup.

Dead

  • Going first: no counters and no enemy backrow. It's still a DARK Fusion Monster for Dragostapelia or Mirrorjade.
  • Monsters unaffected by card effects: no counter, no Tribute.
  • Decks with no backrow: the effect has nothing to hit, so it's a Tribute removal and a 2200 ATK attacker.
  • Nibiru: the Tribute summon still counts toward your opponent's five summons.

Building Around It

These counts are Archetype Nexus's suggestion for a Daredevil build, not a tournament list. Branded Fusion and Instant Fusion are Limited in the TCG. The deck lists and deck search below the tabs are unchanged.

Run the Lines

The combo simulator below the tabs now has six Predaplant lines. Lines 3 to 5 are the Daredevil lines above; line 6 is the Thorns of Violet Poison OTK.
